Knowing when it’s time to quit
Not everything always works out the way we imagine it would. I had loads of passion.
But passion without action and discipline remained a dream - a dream that could have been.
This is my story on why I am retiring SOSORREAL (the instagram account and name)
Some of you may have followed my journey as an illustrator under the name SOSORREAL since 2020. 5 years have passed in a blink of an eye and the time and passion I once had towards illustrating has ebbed and flowed - with less flow - to be frank.
Thus, I have decided to retire SOSORREAL. There are so many fantastic things that I was able to do under that name, paint a mural that will forever live on the fourth floor in the SUPERBUDE Vienna hotel, have people own merch I designed and so much more. I will forever be grateful for that.
What now?
Don’t worry, my creative spark has not left me :) I will still continue to draw and be inspired to illustrate, but you will find them on my main account “s0ritta” on Instagram from now on. My illustrator self will no longer be separated from my main profile. It will all be one now.
Why are you quitting?
I want to illustrate without the pressure (mostly self-imposed) of having to draw something - something great, if possible - because I announced that SOSORREAL is the illustrator part of me. I am also currently pouring loads of love and energy into growing my main account and this blog. So having yet another account where I would like to do the same just doesn’t sound realistic, given how small my overall energy tank is.
I am still an artist. I will continue to create. My skill will not go anywhere (except for getting a bit rusty perhaps).
What if?
The joy of knowing when to quit is also knowing that you can start again. This time - with all the knowledge and experience you’ve gained. You can always reinvent yourself.
What may be an absolute truth for you today, can become a question tomorrow.
That’s the beauty of being human. We can always continue to grow. We are allowed to change.
I have simply outgrown my cocoon, so I will stretch out my legs and go on an adventure to explore what is out there.
Stay curious and BE BOLD!
With the utmost gratitude and love,
SOSORREAL
